We're Off

After setting off at 6am, we caught the flight to Edinburgh, then connected to Wick.  We were an hour late arriving, so were lucky to get almost immediately onto a bus to John o'Groats.  During the half hour journey to John o'Groats, we saw several bikers finishing their journey and three walkers pressing on earnestly to the line.  Upon arriving at John o'Groats itself, there was a steady stream of finishers arriving, including the walkers that we had passed, and they seemed to be on a huge high, still smiling from ear to ear when they joined us for replenishments in the nearby cafe.
After posing for the mandatory photo and fueling up, we pitched tent and decided that as some people were sponsoring us per mile, we'd better make the 2 mile journey along the coast to Duncansby Head (the true North Easterly extreme).  This proved to be a fantastic walk along quiet beaches and cliff edges where seals can be seen, leading to the lighthouse point of the head.  Sadly the mist came in obscuring the views of Duncansby Stack which we would have liked to have seen.
The weather this evening is quite hot and after speaking to the family by the wonder of Skype, we shall wander back into town to see if anywhere serves a pint so that we can review the route for tomorrow which will not include the luxury of a campsite.
